Julie Barbeau is an American artist who focuses on oil painting and relief printmaking -- especially linocut prints.  She graduated with an MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art in 2021.   She also studied relief printmaking at the NYAA. She earned her undergraduate degrees from the University of Missouri in Journalism and German in 1983.  While living in the Los Angeles area she studied figure drawing and painting at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative art.

A lifelong artist, Julie explores chaos and order and the human experience through implied narratives and symbolism.  Graduate classes on synthetic painting, as well drawing and painting from imagination electives with Steven Assael inspired her current printmaking series.  
The images are created from maquettes made with Sculpy clay figurines, toy animals and imaginary landscapes. 


She has a deep interest in all eras of art history and served as a post graduate teaching assistant of the New York Academy of Art for art history and art theory classes for two years.  She also has experience teach drawing and organizing long pose model sessions in her studio.
