Julie Barbeau is a contemporary realism portrait, figure and still life painter.  She is currently working on a series of large narrative paintings of people in landscapes.  Her favoite mediums are oil for paintings and charcoal for drawings.  She also enjoys painting outdoor plein air landscapes as preparation for her narrative pieces.   Julie earned bachelor degrees in journalism and German at the University of Missouri, and later studied drawing and painting at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and Gage Academy of Art in Seattle.

She is inspired by many great masters of the Baroque, especially Rembrandt, Titian and Velazquez.  Yet, she puts a contemporary psychological spin on her pieces.  Many of her oil portrait paintings are multi-layered works based on the classic Venetian technique.

Julie has three grown sons and one granddaughter and currently lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband.  She formerly lived in the Los Angeles area.
